Emergency Management

Halloween safety

Here’s a scary fact! Kids are twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween as they are other nights of the year. With Halloween fast approaching, the Office of Emergency Management encourages you to follow these simple practices to stay safe!

  • Adults should accompany young children while they are out.
  • Walk on sidewalks, not the street. Use crosswalks when crossing the street.
  • Carry flashlights or glow sticks to stay visible to traffic.
  • Choose bright colors and flame-retardant materials. If your child will be outdoors after dark, attach reflective tape to his or her costume or treat bag.
  • Watch for reactions and call Poison Control (800-222-1222) if you suspect a problem or 911 immediately if you think emergency attention is needed.
